About
The Bandırma Ferry was built as a passenger and cargo ship at the shipyard called Mac Mac. Intyre Paisley-Huston and Cardett in Glasgow. As the first owner, the company called "Dussey and Robinson Company" called the ship "Torocaderto" and used it for five years. In 1883, he was sold to H. Psica Preus in Greece and his name was changed to "Kymi". In 1890, the last owner was sold to another Greek company called "Cap. Andereadis". It was sank in 1891 and was increased to the surface in the same year. Later, it was sold to the company "Istanbul Rama Derasimo" and registered to the port of Istanbul in the Ottoman Empire. In 1894, he started to work for the Ottoman Naval Roads, his name was changed to "Bandirma" and turned into a mail ferry in order to serve in the Marmara Sea.
On May 19, 1919, a historic task began for the Bandırma ferry. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Türkiye, carried from Istanbul to Samsun to start the Turkish War of Independence against the invaders. In 1925, he was destroyed as scrap in the Golden Horn of Istanbul.
