Leopard 2 is a modern 3rd generation German main battle tank. The first prototypes of the vehicle were built in 1973 and the mass production, which started in 1979, continues to the present day. To date (2018), 3,480 tanks have been produced in this type. Leopard 2 is strengthened with 1500 HP MB MB 873 KA 501 engine. The vehicle is equipped with a single 120 mm rheinmetall RH-M-120 ball and two 7.62 mm mg3 machine guns.

The Leopard 2 was developed in response to a new main battle tank request announced by Bundeswehr in the early 1960s. The new vehicle would replace Leopard 1 tanks in the West German army. Initially, a project called MBT-70 with American companies (eg Chrysler) was cooperated. However, a few years later, cooperation was terminated and later studies focused only on German companies. Despite a very long analytical, study and experimental work process, which lasted almost 15 years, the Leopard 2, introduced to the production line in 1979, appeared as a revolutionary and left behind the Soviet designs at that time. Many analysts see this as the first tank of the third generation in history, including M1 Abrams, French Leclerc or much later Russian T-90 tank. Leopard 2 is primarily characterized by the use of a strong 1500 HP engine, before 1979 - with its mobility and maneuverability. It also has a very good armor using composites and SKO (fire control system). In addition, in the 1980s and 1990s, it was armed with its wonderful RH-M-120 ball, which became standard for many NATO countries. During the mass production of Leopard 2, several versions of the tank were created, two of them deserve special attention: A 4 and A 6. The first time in 1985, the A 4, which emerged in 1985, has highly developed and improved compared to the previous SKO versions, and has a developed turret and front armor body. It is also the most exported version. At the beginning of the 21st century, a 6 version of A 6 version of the RH-M-120 ball, which mainly increased its influence capacity to a significant extent, was created. The latest version of the Leopard 2 tank is the A 7 version of the Bundeswehr equipment in 2014. Due to the very high combat value, Leopard 2 was exported to many countries, including Austria, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Spain, the Netherlands, Netherlands or A 4 and A 5.
