The BMP-2 Infantry War Vehicle was developed in the 1970s and entered the Soviet Army in 1980. In the same year, mass production started and so far (2017) continued. The BMP-2 is operated by a single 300HP UTD-20-3 diesel engine and can carry up to 7 troops. The basic weapons of BMP-2 are: 30 mm 2a42 automatic ball, 1 PKT machine rifle caliber: 7.62 mm and 1 atgm launcher (tank-guided missile) 9M111 Fagot or 9m113 competition.

The BMP-2 Infantry War Vehicle was developed as the successor of BMP-1. The main changes compared to the previous model focused on better tank weapons and increasing the vehicle's durability on the battlefield. The BMP-2 met the assumptions of builders in these areas and also had the same advantages as the BMP-1: First of all, the ability to overcome water barriers without requiring very high mobility in the battlefield and without special preparation. In addition to these advantages, thanks to its relatively simple and reliable design, BMP-2 played an important role as the main equipment of mechanized infantry troops that fought there during the war in Afghanistan in 1979-1989. BMP-2 was also exported to the Warsaw Pact countries, including Poland. Until 1989, he was not included in the Equipment of the Polish army, but remained in his equipment to date (2017).
