Rome is an Italian warship from the Second World War. The backbone of this unit was laid in 1938, launching took place in June 1940, and the Italian Regia Marina was put into service in 1942. The full displacement of the ship was about 46,000 tons, 238 m length and 32.9 m wide. The maximum speed reached 30 knots. Weapons on the ship consisted of: 9 381 mm balls in three turrets, 12 pieces of 152 mm ball and 12 90 mm ball.

Rome was the third of the Littorio class warships. Vittorio Vento is another completely inaccurate name of this species. The Littorio -class warships were built by Regia Marine to leave the French navy behind in the Mediterranean, and from the very beginning it was seen as the most powerful warships of the Italian Navy. New ships had strong and well -placed main weapons, good armor and performance - especially the maximum speed. They were also characterized by a pioneering and atypical torpedo defense system. Rome was put into service at a time when Regia Marina was in defense during the Mediterranean War. Rome did not participate in any major naval war, and in June 1943 he was damaged by an allied air strike to the La Spezia base, where he was deployed at that time. In September of the same year, Rome departed from La Spezia to Malta to surrender to the Allies, but the German Do 217k was attacked by bombing planes. As a result of the two bomb accuracy of Fritz X, the Roman battle sank on September 9, 1943.
