SS John W. Brown was an American merchant ship of the Second World War. The backbone of this unit was thrown in July 1942 and launched in September of the same year. Again in September 1942, the ship was put into service. The total length was 134.6 meters and the width was 17.4 meters when the ship was lowered into the water. The full displacement reached 14,100 tons and the maximum speed reached 11 knots. When it was launched, deck weapons consisted of a single 127 mm ball and 7 20 mm oerlicon balls, but it was changed during the service.

SS John W. Brown was one of the Liberty ships. This type of ships, II. During World War II, it was built in series in the shipyards in the USA and Canada. The units of this type were cheap and easy to produce, they had a very simple structure, but they also had very wide warehouses. It is useful to add that the first units of this type were built in about 240-250 days, but with the development of production techniques, this period has fallen to about 40 days! During the war, more than 2,700 Liberty vessels were built, and about 200 of them were lost as a result of hostility. SS John W. Brown was built in a shipyard. Bethlehem-Fairfield shipyard in Maryland, Sparrows Point. He made his first time in October 1942 - March 1943. In the beginning of 1943, it was transformed into a unit designed for the transport of the army and II. He made seven more times during World War II (June 1943-August 1945). After the end of hostility, it remained in service until 1946. He served as a school union between 1946-1982 and remained in the backup between 1982-1988. It is only one of the two Liberty ships that are currently functioning as a museum ship.
