LAV-III 8X8 model features

LAV III Kodiak is a contemporary Canadian wheel infantry war tool. The first copies of this car was put into service in 1999. The drive is provided with a single Caterpillar 3126 engine of 355 HP. The car is 6.93 meters long and 2.66 meters wide. The empty weight of the vehicle is 16.95 tons. The armament consists of a single 25 mm m242 ball and two 5,56 mm and 7.62 mm machine gun.

LAV III Kodiak was developed to replace and standardize various armored vehicles such as M113, Lynx, Grizzly or Bismon, which was used by the Canadian army in the 1960s and 1970s. In order to shorten the work on the new car and reduce costs, it was decided to adapt the Swiss Mowag company Piranha III 8x8 to Canada needs. Compared to previous models and at the same time Piranha's previous generations, Kodiak LAV III provides better ballistic protection, which can be further improved by attaching additional armor. The vehicle also has a much better resistance to the explosion of mines or the event called Fugasa. During the production, various development versions of this tool were created: LAV III ISC (classic armored personnel carrier), LAV III CPV (Command tool) or LAV III TUA (Kundağı Motorized Tank Rocketate Tow). Such vehicles are used in Canada, New Zealand and Colombian armies. It is worth adding that LAV III Kodiak has become the basis for the development of the Stryker vehicle family.
