ABOUT:

The DFS 194 was based on Alexander Lippisch Delta Tailless Design series. As it was initially designed, it would be a tail -free plane similar to the DFS 40, working with a traditional piston engine running a repulsive propeller. The body was completed in this configuration in March 1938.Lippisch's designs attracted the attention of Reicsluftfahrtminiserium (RLM - Reich Aviation), who believed that tail -free aircraft were the best foundation for a rocket hunter. On January 2, 1939, Lippisch and his team were transferred to the Messerschmitt company to start working on such a plane known as the project X. The DFS-194 was replaced to accept a Walter R I-203 rocket engine designed by Hellmuth Walter, and until October, the aircraft was passing motor tests at the Peeneminde.In the beginning of 1940, heini Dittmar followed the first motor flight with Heini Dittmar in August.
