ABOUT:
The development of the Fokker D.XXI began to design a modern fighter aircraft with some of the latest aviation technologies with engineers at Fokker at the end of 1934. In 1935, the Dutch Air Force ordered the construction of a prototype to be evaluated by the East Indian Islands Branch as a result of the fact that the plane was appropriate to defend the overseas assets of the Netherlands.Although the first flight in 1936 promised enough hope, the fate of Fokker D.XXI was "hanging in the air" for a while due to the change in the Dutch Air Force. As a result, Fokker began to introduce the plane in the export market in the hope of finding foreign customers.Fortunately, Fokker attracted attention to buy a series of planes from both Denmark and Finland and to obtain production rights. At the same time, the internal interest camel and resulted in the start of production in 1937.
Despite the Dutch design, the Fokker D.XXI was mainly produced and used by Finland. The Finnish Fokkers, who built and operates approximately ⅔ of all D.XXIs, differentiated themselves during the Winter and Continue War, but has achieved less success in the second due to their old designs. The Dutch Fokkers also showed a harsh resistance to the occupying German forces in May 1940, and several superior Messeschmitt BF 109s dropped a series of enemy planes. Finally, about 150 D.XXI was built and served with Finnish forces until 1949.
