Nissan's history of competing in international rallies began in 1958, when the company entered the Mobilgas Trial Round Australia Rally, then known as the world's toughest event, with a Datsun 210. Nissan's its innate endurance has led to numerous victories, especially in dirt rallies such as the Safari Rally. Continuing this "Nissan of the Rally" tradition, the Nissan 240RS was launched in 1983. Based on the third generation Silvia (S110) coupe, the 240RS was a 2WD, rear-wheel drive vehicle powered by a 2340 cc, 4-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve FJ24 engine, producing 240 PS. More than 200 units were produced as purely racing vehicles, in accordance with Group B regulations. At that time, a new generation of Group B cars with mid-engines and 4WD systems had begun to emerge. However, with its ease of use and reliability, the 240RS consistently ranked top in the WRC for three seasons from 1983 to 1986.
