BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) is a popular series held in the UK with a long history and tradition of touring car racing. They often promote themselves by competing with automakers, teams and vehicles from around the world. Many Japanese manufacturers are participating, including Toyota; Toyota developed a race-specific Carina E and raced it in 1993. Carina E was the European name for the four-door sedan Corona sold in Japan. Front-wheel drive, two-wheel drive, front-wheel drive and It featured a transversely mounted 2.0-litre inline four-cylinder engine at the front. During the 1993 season Will Hoy and Julian Bailey drove for Team Securicor Toyota, a factory team run by Tom's GB. Bailey took a remarkable victory in round 11 at Knockhill Circuit.
