Convair Xfy Poto was an experimental vertical departure warrior. Standing on the tail, it started from a vertical position. Poto had Delta wings and two propellers rotating in the opposite directions running with a turboprop engine of 5,500 HP (otherwise the aircraft would return during departure due to angular momentum). As a result, there would be a multi -role hunter aircraft that could take off from small ships.

Following the end of the Second World War, the Cold War encouraged the US army to develop a vertical launch technology. In May 1951, Convair and Lockheed signed a contract to design and build two fighter aircraft, each of which can take vertical take -off and landing. Although the contract required the construction of the two units, both teams managed to build one unit: Lockheed XFV and Convair Xfy, which is generally called "pogo".
