Petlakow PE-2 is a two-seat light bombardment plane designed to support the battlefield with a metal-made double-tailed, low-wing design. The prototype flew on December 15, 1940. During the mass production process that started in 1941, almost 11,500 copies of this successful aircraft were created. The PE-2 was based on the prototype WI-100 fighter aircraft. During the war, a dozen version of this plane was created. For example, we can talk about PE-2FT, which was put into service in 1942, with better defense weapons and stronger engines.
