Hobbytime Review

Messerschmitt BF 109 - German Fighter Aircraft, II. Luftwaffe's main warrior during World War II. The prototype of the BF 109 fighter aircraft was a plane for Romania under the name of M37. During further work, the plane was called BF 108 and was produced with this name. BF 108 Taifun was a two -seat communication plane. In 1933, Reichsluftfahrtministerium ordered a new fighter aircraft. The design of Willy Messerschmitt, Robert Luser and Hubert and Richard Bauer began in the spring of 1934. The construction of the first prototype of the new aircraft, called V1 (V: Experimental Aircraft for Versuchsmuster), started in the fall of 1934. Flight tests started in May 1935 with locked retractable landing sets. In the first prototype, the British Rolls-Royce Kestrel V12 engine was used with 695 HP (511 kW), running a two-wing, wooden, fixed hatred propeller.

The four largest German design offices of the aviation companies participated in the competition announced for the fighter aircraft at that time: Arado, Focke-Wulf, Heinkel and Bayerische Flugzeugwerke. The office structures of the last two plants were entitled to be further developed: He 112 and BF 109. During the comparative tests of both prototypes, BF 109 reached a maximum speed of 22 kilometers and a higher climbing rate. However, He 112 received very positive opinions from pilots praising the well -management of the aircraft and better maneuverability and pilot characteristics while making a taxi. Initially, the tender was decided in favor of the Heinkel team, but Prof.Dr. Willy Messerschmitt decided to continue working on the BF 109 prototype. Later, Messerschmitt AG was merged with Bayerische Flugzeugwerke. Approximately 33,000 BF 109 versions of various versions were produced. RP-1, then RP-5 Izumud.
