Hobbytime Review
Aichi D3A Type 99 Carrier Bomber Aircraft (Allied Report Name "Val"), II. It is a pike bombardment plane originating from World War II aircraft carrier. He was the primary diving bomber of the Japanese Empire Navy (IJN) and took part in almost all IJN actions, including the Pearl Harbor attack.
In the mid-1936, the Japanese navy released the 11-shi specification for a single-winged pike bombardment aircraft to replace the existing D1A dual-wing aircraft in service at the time.
Aichi design began with low elliptical wings inspired by Heinkel He 70 Blitz. It flew slowly enough to prevent dragging from landing sets from a serious problem, so fixed gear was used for simplicity. 529 kW (709 hp) Nakajima Hikari 1 nine -cylinder radial motor power would be given.
The first prototype was completed in December 1937 and a month later, flight trials started and then D3A1. The first tests were disappointed. The power of the aircraft was insufficient and suffered from the imbalance of direction in large turns and tended to wobble on narrower turns. Dive brakes trembled severely when extended at the design speed of 200 knots (370 km/h), and the navy already wanted a higher dive rate of 240 knots (440 km/h)
The second aircraft was extensively replaced before delivery to solve problems. Hikari was replaced by 626 kW (839 hp) Mitsubishi Kinsei 3 in a redesigned hood and increased the power and enlarged the vertical tail to help the imbalance. The opening of the wings was slightly larger, and washing was washed to combat the wobbles on the outer parts of the attack edges, and reinforced diving brakes were installed. These changes improved all problems except for direction imbalance, and D3A1 was sufficient to overcome the Nakajima D3n 1.
In December 1939, navy, aircraft Navy Type 99 Carrier Bomber Model 11 (Kanjō Bakugekiki, usually shortened as 艦爆 Kanbaku. He ordered it as. As a little smaller wings and 746 kW (1,000 hp) kinsei 43 or 798 kW (1,070 hp) kinsei 44 had a long -standing power. It was solved by hanging out, and the plane gained the ability to maneuver.
In June 1942, an improved version of D3A1 reinforced with 969 kW (1.299 hp) Kinsei 54 was tested and D3A2 or Model 12 was determined. The extra power range has reduced the range, so the design was further changed with additional fuel warehouses to bring the total tank to 900 L (240 US gallons), which gave it the range of the necessary to fight the Solomon islands effectively. This model, known as Model 22 by the Navy, began to replace the model 11 in the front façade units in the autumn of 1942, and most models were then sent to the educational units. Some of the D3A1's late production models have a propeller spinner, while D3A2 has become standard.
