About AH-1Z Viper (Version 2.0)

Ell AH-1Z Viper is a American double-engine attack helicopter based on AH-1W Supercobra, which was developed for the United States of the United States as part of the H-1 upgrade program. AH-1Z has four knives, beds without beds, composite main rotor system, upgraded transmission and a new target engagement system. [5] AH-1Z, one of the latest members of the Bell Huey family, is also called "Zulu Cobra" based on the military phonetic alphabet of the variant letter The appearance of AH-1Z is mainly based on Bell 249, a AH-1S, equipped with four knife main rotor system from Bell 412. This helicopter showed Bell's Cobra II design at Farnborough Airshow in 1980. Cobra II would be equipped with Hellfire missiles, a new targeting system and improved engines. The next Cobra 2000 suggestion included General Electric T700 engines and a rotor with four knives. This design attracted attention from the US Marine Posts, but there was no enough budget. In 1993, Bell proposed an AH-1W-based version for the British new attack helicopter program. The derivative Cobravenom contained a modern digital cockpit and could carry Tow, Hellfire or Brimstone missiles. Cobravenom design was changed in 1995 by switching to four knife rotor system. However, AH-64D was chosen instead of that year.

In 1996, the United States Marine Infantry Corps launched the H-1 upgrade program by signing a contract with Bell helicopter to upgrade 180 AH-1W to AH-1Z and to upgrade 100 UH-1N to the UH-1Ys. The H-1 program created a completely modernized attack and service helicopters with a significant design partnership to reduce operating costs. AH-1Z and UH-1y share a common tail boom, engines, rotor system, transfer organs, avionic architecture, software, controls and screens for over 84 %of the same component. Bell participated in a Bell-Government-integrated test team during the Engineering Production Development (EMD) stage of the H-1 program. The AH-1Z program slowly progressed as a research and development operation from 1996 to 2003. The existing two -wing semi -hard, theining rotor system is replaced by four -poultry, hx -free, bed -free rotor system. Four -poultry configuration, increased flight envelope, maximum speed, vertical climbing ratio, useful load and reduced rotor vibration levels provide improvements in flight properties.

AH-1Z first flew on December 8, 2000, Bell, in July 2002 for the flight test phase of the United States Navy Air Systems Command (Navair) in July 2002 in the Navy Air Station Patuxent River was delivered three prototypes. The first production of low -rate production started in October 2003 until 2018 deliveries were made. In the late 2006, Navaır signed a contract to develop a new 20 mm ammunition transport system to increase the reliability of the existing connection system with Meggitt Defense Systems. These systems are now adapted to AH-1W and AH-1Z fleets, which give good results during the war in Afghanistan. In February 2008, the US navy arranged the contract in such a way that the last 40 AH-1Z would be built as new aircraft instead of reproduction of previously planned AH-1W. In September 2008, the Navy requested 46 additional aircrafts for maritime pads and the total number of ordered reached 226. In 2010, maritime pads planned to order 189 AH-1Z, 58 of them were new planes, deliveries would continue until 2022. On December 10, 2010, the Navy Office approved AH-1Z for full-rate production
