In January 1937, two prototype locomotives, 41 001 and 41 002 were then delivered to DRG, who tested and bought them extensively. The prototypes proved themselves in a short time with their power, performance and silent driving qualities as well as their extraordinary acceleration.When developing grade 41, the principle of having standard locomotoes (EinheitsLox) showed the financial advantages of standardization. For example, the simultaneously developed grade 06 and 45 motors through the use of components of the engine construction costs were below 10,000 Reichsmark.Since October 1938, the first full -scale production class 41 locomotives have been ordered by Deutsche Reichsbahn (DRB), now re -named (since February 1937). All well-known locomotive producers in Germany, including BMAG, Borsig, Maschinenfabrik Esslingen, Henschel & Sohn, Arnold Jung Lokomotivabrik, Krauss-Maffei, Krupp, Orenstein & Koppel and Schichau, participated in the construction of locomotives.
