The Imperial Guard (French: Garden Impériale) directly describes distinguished soldiers, who were previously under the command of the French emperor Napoleon Bonapart, who had previously increased numbers. The guards were responsible for the personal security of the emperor during the battle and rarely would be included in the battle. The guards consisted of infantry, cavalry, artillery, fortifications and sailors. In addition, there was a distinction between the guards according to the experience and the seniority. Starting from the most experienced and senior, there were three levels with old guards, guards and young guards.

The origin of the guards is based on Garde Des Consuls, founded on 28 November 1799. Following the French revolution, it was established to ensure the security of the legislative and executive institutions of the Republic. These soldiers, which were around a thousand, did not disobey the coup called Napoleon Bonapart in 1799 and called 18 Brumaire. The name of the guard unit was changed on May 18, 1804 as the imperial guard. The center is in Paris. During his power, he showed close attention to the Napoleon guards, especially the old guards. It is known that the most senior former guards are said and criticized in environments where the emperor was. The guards fed better in getting better salary than other members of the army and fighting the highest quality equipment. It is known that other soldiers call the guards "immortals".
