The American Civil War (12 April 1861 - May 26, 1865; known as the names) was a civil war in the United States. He fought between the United States (Union [F] or "North") and the confederation ("South") formed by the states separated. The main reason for the war was the disagreement of whether slavery would be allowed to spread to the western territory, whether it would lead to more slave states or to put slavery into a ultimate destruction process.
The decades of political debates on slavery reached its peak with the victory of Abraham Lincoln, who opposed the spread of slavery to the west, in the 1860 US presidential elections. The first seven southern slave state responded to Lincoln's victory by leaving the United States and establishing the Confederation in 1861. The confederation seized US castles within its borders and other federal beings. The Confederation, which was ruled by the President of the Confederation Jefferson Davis, ultimately took control of more than half of the US territory in the eleven US states that had existed at that time. Four years of intense clashes began, mostly in the South.
During the West Western Theater, the Union achieved significant permanent gains during 1861-1862 - the conflict at the Eastern Theater of the War remained uncomfortable. On January 1, 1863, Lincoln issued the Declaration of the Independence Declaration, which declared that all slaves in the rebellious states were free, which made the end of slavery into a war target. In the West, the Union destroyed the river navy of the confederation in the summer of 1862, then most of the Western armies and seized New Orleans. The successful 1863 siege of Vicksburg divided the Confederation into two on the Mississippi River. In 1863, the Confederation General Robert E. Lee's attack on the north ended. Western achievements led General Ulysses S. Grant to the command of all unity armies in 1864. The Union has gathered its resources and manpower to attack the confederation from all directions by applying a naval blockade to the ports of confederations. This led Atlanta to fall into Union General William Tecumseh Sherman in 1864 and then march into the sea. The last important wars were intensified around the ten -month siege of Petersburg, the gateway to the confederation capital Richmond. The confederations left Richmond and on April 9, 1865, Lee surrendered to Grant.
This was followed by a confederation wave. On April 14, only five days after Lee's surrender, Lincoln was killed. As a practical issue, the war ended with the surrender of the Trans-Mississippi Department on May 26, but the conclusion of the American Civil War lacks a clear and precise historical end date. The Confederation Land Forces continued to surrender from May 26 to 23 June. At the end of the war, most of the infrastructure of the South, especially railways, were destroyed. The confederation collapsed, slavery was abolished and four million black people were released. The nation, which the war fell down, then reconstructed the reconstruction period, to bring back the old confederation states to the United States and to give civil rights to freed slaves.
The civil war is one of the most comprehensive and written sections in the US history. It continues to be the subject of the discussion of cultural and historiography. The ongoing legend of the Lost Case of the Confederation is particularly interesting. The American Civil War was among the first wars using industrial war. During the war, railways, telegraphs, steam ships, armored warships and mass production weapons were widely used. In total, the war caused the death of 620,000 to 750,000 soldiers and an indefinite number of civilian casualties. The Civil War made the most deadly military conflict in American history.
