Africa Korps (Full German Name: Deutsches Africakorps, is shortened as min), in the folk language in 1941-1943, the common name of the German land units fighting in North Africa. The African Corps was founded in February 1941 as a result of the bitter defeats of the Italian army in wars in Africa at the beginning of 1940/1941. His main task was to come to the aid of the Italian ally and to stop the progress of British troops in Libya. The commander of the Union was a general and later Marshal Erwin Rommel. Initially, the min was only the 5th light Division (then it was converted into the 21st armored division), in May 1941, the 15th Armored Division and the 90th Light Division at the end of 1941 joined him. In the mid -1941, Panzergrouppe Africa was founded under the presidency of Erwin Rommel and Africa Korps also participated. In spite of his defense tasks, immediately after the DAK (or wider Panzergruppe Africa) was removed - under the initiative of his commander - in 1941-1942, he defeated the British in a series of defeats in the desert and began strict attack operations. However, then the commander was nicknamed desert fox. But at the same time, DAK was distressed by the beginning of the supply problems from the very beginning, which negatively affected his ability to carry out his attack actions. He suffered a significant defeat in the Second Hand Alamein Battle (October-November 1942), which led to the withdrawal of Tunisia until May 1943, until May 1943.
