Hobbytime Review

Dora (also known as Schweer Gustav) is a German 802 mm rail ball from the Second World War. The start rate of the demolition bullet of this ball was up to 820 m/s and the maximum range was about 47-50 kilometers. The barrel length was 32.48 meters and the weight of the bullets reached 7100 kilograms!

Dora's design work began in 1935 at the Krupp factory, and its initiators were Adolf Hitler, who wanted to get a ball that could destroy any fortified position on the Maginot Line. However, the work on this atypical and - as it is understood, was only completed in 1942, that is, two years after Germany's victory against France! The range of the gun was undoubtedly extraordinary for that time and strong missiles were able to shoot, but had an incredibly low shooting rate (2-3 shots per minute) and required a boring process to prepare a battle position. In addition, the enemy could be easily destroyed by the Air Force. The weapon was used in the battle during the siege of Sevastopol in 1942. Dora had to participate in the siege of Leningrad, but he could not reach this city for reasons for communication. Most likely, the weapon was destroyed in April 1945 by his own crew in Germany.
