The A-10 is a high-survival and is a versatile aircraft and is popular among the pilots for the 'Return home' event. The task of the aircraft is land attack on tanks, armored vehicles and facilities and close air support of the land forces. The aircraft is suitable for flight from advanced air bases with its short departure and landing capability. The aircraft has a long range (800 miles) and its durability and can walk around the battlefield. Maneuverability at low speed and low altitude (below 1,000 FT) provides accurate and effective targeting and weapons delivery on any land. The first flight of the A-10 was made in May 1972 and since then, a total of 715 aircraft was produced. Originally produced by Fairchild, the main contractor of A-10 since 1987 is Northrop Grumman, which conducts support and structural upgrade programs from the integrated systems and air structures departments in New York and St Augustine in Florida. More than 350 A-10 aircraft serves with US Air Force and National Air Guards.
