On February 23, 2024, the first of twelve Dreamliners ordered by Hawaiian Airlines was greeted with a special celebration in Honolulu; this celebration included a formal Hawaiian blessing. The interior design paid attention to every detail, from special fabrics that honor the Polynesian culture of the island group, to wall panels and even the numbering of the rows of seats in Hawaiian. The airline often names its long-range planes after stars and constellations used in the traditions of Polynesian sailors. N781HA is named after the red giant star Kapuahi in the constellation Taurus, known as Aldebaran in Western astronomy.
