Johan Martin Schroeder was a pioneer in Dutch commercial aviation. Schroeder, himself a pilot, founded Martin's Air Charter, the Netherlands' first charter airline, in 1958. The first flight, with its only aircraft at the time, the 11-seat de Havilland Dove, took place from Amsterdam to the Mediterranean island of Majorca. A year later, in 1959, he purchased the first Douglas DC-3 (PH-MAA). He served as president and CEO until his retirement in 1998, 40 years after the airline's founding. Martin Schroeder passed away on October 2, 2024, at the age of 93. To commemorate their lifetime of achievements in commercial aviation in the Netherlands and beyond, Herpa is launching a limited edition model of Martin's Air Charter's first Douglas DC-3 (registration PH-MAA).
