After the unification of the two German states in 1990, aircraft of the National People's Army air forces were integrated into the Federal German Air Force. This included IL-62s of the 44th Transport Wing's 4th Squadron, operated by the "Government Squadron" in Interflug's civilian colours. Three Ilyushin IL-62s were given new (West) German Air Force designations and were used by the Luftwaffe as "civil servant service aircraft" to transport officials from federal ministries between Bonn, the former capital of West Germany, and Berlin, the new capital of reunified Germany. This Il-62MK, previously registered as DDR-SEP, was given the military registration number 11+22. First class seats were converted to a narrower seating arrangement for use on the shuttle route between Berlin and Bonn. On the other hand, the rest of the VIP section, which includes office space and bedrooms, remains unchanged, most likely for budget reasons.
