Herpa 573382 1/200 Scale, Pan American Airlines Douglas DC-3 ('s Clipperle) N19912, Metal, Ready for Display Model Passenger Plane
This DC-3's long life began in 1943 in the US Army Air Forces as a C-53 Skytrooper with serial number 42-68789. Following the end of World War II, it was converted into a commercial DC-3 and delivered to Pan American Airways. After several years of service with Colombia's Avianca, it returned to Pan AM in 1963 and was subsequently used as a feeder aircraft in Germany, particularly on the Stuttgart-Frankfurt line. N19912 was one of the few venerable DC-3s to receive the new Pan Am color scheme with the famous globe logo introduced in the late 1950s. In keeping with its base in Stuttgart at the time, it earned the nickname "'s Clipperle" - "little bilgiper" in the local Swabian dialect - as one of the smaller representatives bearing the classic Pan Am Clipper names.
