Since its founding as a mail delivery service in Pittsburgh in 1937, the airline has grown through rebranding: from All American Aviation to Allegheny Airlines, to USAir after its acquisitions of Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) and Piedmont, and finally to rebranded as US Airways in 1997. By the early 2010s, the airline had become a major carrier with more than 340 jet aircraft, as well as more than 270 regional aircraft operated under the US Airways Express brand, and was also the world's largest operator of Airbus aircraft. In 2013, US Airways merged with American Airlines, becoming one of many airlines that are part of the legacy of today's American Airlines. To commemorate this legacy, the Dallas, Texas-based airline produced several aircraft painted in the colors of various historic airlines; for example, this Airbus A321 is painted in US Airways' latest color scheme; another A321 is painted in Pacific Southwest Airlines' bright colors and will soon be released in 1/500 scale (item no. 538244).
