Soy, World War II and the post -war period was a Japanese ice crusher, research and supply ship. The unit was reduced to water in February 1938. At the end of the service, the ship was 83.5 m long, 13.5 m wide and had an displacement of approximately 4.100 tons. The maximum speed was 12-13 knots. The soy was initially built on order as a commercial ship adapted to northern waters with ice floating for the Soviet Union. His original name was Wołoczajewiec. However, due to the political tensions on the Tokyo-Moscow line, the ship was not delivered to the ordering side, and the ship was the property of one of the Japanese transport lines, which initially called Chiro Maru. However, it was confiscated by the navy in 1939 and served as a research and ammunition shipping ship since 1940 (under the name of soybean). The ship survived the war happily and was transformed into the first Japanese Arctic discovery ship in 1950. During the period of 1956-1962, the ship traveled on the Japan-Antarctic route, conducted research, and delivered material to the Japanese showa polar base (other name: syowa). In 1978, soy was excluded from service and turned into a museum ship
