Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II (Lightning) is a single-seat, single-engine, multi-role fighter aircraft produced by Lockheed Martin to meet the needs of the US Air Force, US Navy, US Army and US Marine Corps. Originally designated X-35 JSF, the aircraft was renamed F-35 Lightning II in 2006. Although the main recipient is the US government, the project is also co-financed by other countries, notably Great Britain, Italy and the Netherlands. Prime contractors are Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman and BAE Systems. The main goal of the JSF idea is to create a universal aircraft that will be produced for all armed forces, which will allow comprehensive standardization of spare parts and significantly reduce costs. Finally, three versions of the F-35 (A, B and C) will be produced, more than three-quarters of which will have the same elements. The main mission of all versions of the F-35 is to attack ground targets, perform fighter missions, conduct air combat and electronic warfare. It is worth noting that the F-35, unlike its larger "relative" F-22, is designed for low-intensity conflicts. This does not change the fact that it is one of the most modern multi-purpose aircraft in the world, thanks to the propellant unit used (Pratt-Whitney F135 engines), avionics and stealth features.
