Volkswagen Beetle (other names: VW Type 1 or VW Beetle) is a German passenger car in the city cars class for the first time in 1938. Its production started in the same year and lasted until 2003. Beetle has been produced for 65 years! A total of more than 21.5 million copies have been produced. The history of VW Beetle dates back to the 1930s, when the Nazi regime in Germany decided to create a "folk car" as cheap as possible and easy to produce. Following negotiations with a large number of German automotive companies, it was decided to establish a separate company called Volkswagen (German Folk Car) to undertake this task, and Ferdinand Porsche became the chief designer of the new vehicle. However, the rapid eruption of World War II has only turned its large -scale production plans for civilian needs that began after 1945. With vehicles such as Citroen 2CV or Fiat 500, Beetle laid the foundations of a new segment, the city car class in the European automotive market. Volkswagen Beetle worked with a engine on the back of the vehicle during its production. The engine itself was an air -cooled boxer unit. Interestingly, only two main body versions emerged during the 65 -year production: a 2 -door fastback and a 2 -door convertible. Beetle deserved the title of being a legendary car and being a symbol of the 20th century automotive industry.
