Turin was a luxury variation of Ford Fairlane, which was initially medium -sized Ford Fairlane. After 1968, the name Fairlane was preserved for basic models with lower floor levels than Turin -using models. During this time, Turin was accepted as a sub -series of Fairlane. In 1970, Torino became the primary name of Ford's intermediate product, and Fairlane became a sub -series of Torino. In 1971, Fairlane name was completely removed and all Ford intermediate products were called Turin. This name was one of the few recommended people for Mustang while developing. Turin was the twin of the Mercury Monto series.
