About Mahmudiye Ottoman Navy

Mahmudiye was a ship of the Ottoman navy. Perhaps it was a three -pole, three -storey, 128 armed sailing ship that could be considered as one of the several heavy first -class armors. Mahmudiye, a lion roaring at the beginning of the ship, aimed to serve to reconstruct the morale of the nation after the loss of the navy during the Navarin War in 1827. The flagship was the world's largest warship in the world for many years. It was built by Mahmud (reigned between 1808-1839) by the maritime architect Mehmet Kalfa and the Naval Engineer Mehmet Efendi in the Empire Arsenal in the Golden Horn. The line was 201 × 56 levels (1 level = 37.887 cm) or 76.15 m × 21.22 m (249.8 ft × 69.6 ft). With the introduction of steam power in the late 1840s, the pure sailboat was thought to be converted into a steam ship. However, the lack of space required for the steam engine on the ship meant that the idea could not be realized. During the Crimean War (1854-56), Mahmudiye participated in the Siege of Sevastopol (1854-55) under the command of Ahmet Pasha from Kayseri. He was honored with the title of Gazi after his successful duty in Sevastopol. He was excluded from service in 1874 and disintegrated at the Imperial Shipyard.
