About Esmeralda
Esmeralda (BE-43) is a tall ship with a four-pole of the Chilean Navy and is currently the second longest and longest sailboat ship in the world.
Structure
The ship is the sixth ship bearing the name of Esmeralda. The first was Callao in Callao by the Spaniards in a brave attack by the Admiral Lord Thomas Alexander Cochrane of the Chilean Navy on the night of November 5, 1820, Callao, seized in Peru. Secondly, the Corvette of the Chilean Navy was in Esmeralda. He fought against the superior forces, on May 21, 1879, in the Battle of Iquique, the colors fought until the colors fly in the air. Construction began in 1946 in Cádiz, Spain. It was aimed to be Spain's national education ship. Chile accepted the proposal and the ship was officially transferred to Chile in 1951. Later, the work on the ship continued. Captain Horacio Cornejo was delivered to the Chilean Government on 15 June 1954 as a four -pole sailing sailboat.
The training vessel of the Spanish Navy Spanish Navy is Juan Sebastián Elcano, a four -pole sailboat. In the 1970s, Esmeralda's equipment was changed to a four -pole barquentine by replacing the front sail sail (course sail) with two main constant sails. The third (top) main sail is still in place.
