About gjoa
Gjoa was the first ship passing through the Northwest Pass. With a team of six people, Roald Amundsen passed the transition through a three -year journey and ended in 1906. In the spring of 1902, Amunden, whose repair was completed, took him to Christiania (now Oslo), the capital of Norway. Meanwhile, Norway was still in a unity with Sweden, and Amundsen hoped that the nationalist spirit surrounding the country would attract sponsors willing to meet the increasing costs of the expedition. He succeeded after much contention and donation of King Oscar. When Amunden returned, Norway had gained independence, and his and his team were among the first national heroes of the new country.
He served as the leader of the Amunden Discovery and the master of Gjøa. The crew, Godfred Hansen, a Danish sea lieutenant and the first officer of Gjøa; Helmer Hansen accompanied a second officer, an experienced ice pilot and then Amunden in the following expeditions; Anton Lund, an experienced sealing captain; Father Ristvedt, Chief Engineer; Gustav Juel Wiik, Second Engineer, Norwegian Royal Navy; And Adolf Henrik Lindstrøm, cook.
On June 16, 1903, Gjoa left Oslofjord and set out for the Labrador Sea in the west of Greenland. From there, he crossed the Bay of Baffin and his arctic archipelago took his travels in the narrow, icy straits. In late September, Gjoa was in the west of the Boothia Peninsula and began to encounter the worsening air and sea ice. Amundsen put him in a natural harbor on the southern coast of King William Island; It was ice until October 3.

In August 1906, Gjøa arrived at Alaska.
