About San Felipe
San Felipe was the frigate of a Spanish navy that was active in the Caribbean during the golden age of the piracy. The frigate was built in Santiago, Cuba in Santiago, and Ibar Armenta Jasso worked as the captain of the ship during their patrols in the waters off Jamaica. In 1722, the pirate Edward Kenway targeted the ship during the first Kingston expedition, and Jackdaw's pirates pressed the ship. The pirates used their materials to rebuild Jackdaw before sinking San Felipe.
On July 12, 1596, the Spanish ship San Felipe departs from the Captain Matías de Landcho with Captain Matías de Landcho, which was estimated to be a 1 million value for Manila for Manila. [7] This relatively late separation of the manila galleon meant that San Felipe was sailing during the Pacific Tayfun season. After being shot by two typhoons, he decided to set out for Japan to repair the captain,
But as he approached the Japanese coast, Kalyon was shot by a third typhoon and left the ship without sailboats. Thanks to the Kuroshio movement, the ship, as an event that the crew as a miracle managed to drift to Japan. Although Kyoto latitude reached land, the ship could not land in strong winds and drifted. In the midst of the fears of the ship, which cannot be controlled by hitting the rocks, the shores of San Felipe approached Tosa on the province on 19 October 1596
The captain, provided by the stories of Hideyoshi's hospitality against monks, felt safe enough to turn down the proposal to go to the friendly Nagasaki Port, the center of the Nanban trade. However, local Daimyo Chōsokabe Motochika showed that he was hostile to foreigners while forcing the disabled ship to go to Urado (today Kōchi), the main port of 200 armed boats.
Once San Felipe Urado reached, stopping on a sand. Chōsokabe samurai then confiscated the cargo worth 600,000 Peso on board - the rest was already lost on the stormy journey. Chōsokabe Motochika claimed that this was a standard procedure because it is a Japanese maritime law understanding that it belongs to the local authorities with the cargo of any ship in Japan; Since Nanban trade and the wealth linked to it rarely reach the Şikoku, the cargo may have been attracted by itself.
When the Spanish crew protest, Motochika advised him to take his cases to the President of the Act Hideyoshi, and advised him to get help from Mashita Nagamori, one of Hyeyoshi's five commission members. Captain Landecho moved on the advice and sent his two officers to the capital Kyoto, on the instruction of meeting with the Franciscan priests and avoiding dealing with Jesuits.
