SPAD XIII is one of the most successful planes of World War I with Fokker D.VII and Sopwith Camel. It is designed by Louis Béchereau for SPAD company. Spad XIII was a plane produced and used in large numbers during World War II. At the end of 1918, 8,472 units were produced by eight other French manufacturers with the parent company. In addition to the French, it was also used by the British, Belgian, Russians and Americans.

During World War II, the SPAD XIII Turkish Air Force had no standard fighter aircraft. The three samples in hand were seized from the enemy. The first aircraft is a British aircraft who made up for compulsory landing and massacred by the Arabs. The other two were seized in Arabia with the crew.

During the War of Independence, 20 Spad XIIIs were purchased from the Italian merchant Parakini and joined the standard planes of our National Forces. The aircraft brought to Mersin by ship was transferred to Konya and there was a machine gun. The SPADs brought during the War of Independence are the production of Bleriot Aeronautique. SPAD XIIIs remained in service until 1926.
