The Japanese army launched the infantry tank program to replace the old Type 89 Chi Ro tanks. During the Manchuria War, Type was determined to be very slow. Works were presented for the tank to replace it. Mitsubishi's prototype was appreciated. With the outbreak of the Second China-Japanese War on July 7, 1937, the prototype was made to the war before the start of the test stages.
At the beginning of December 8, 1941 and 1942, tanks were used by Tomoyuki Yamashita's army in the Malaya Front and Singapore War. Later, the tanks were taken to Myanmar. During the Corregidor War, M3 Stuart and M4 Sherman met tanks. It was the only Japanese tank that could cope with American tanks. During the Saipan War, the 6th US fought against the maritime division. Since the Pacific Islands were forested, the Japanese army could not be used as effectively as the Chinese war.
The tank, which was put into service in 1938, was retired in 1945.
