II. During World War II, the North African Theater saw Allied and Axis forces traveling back and forth across the deserts of Libya, Tunisia and Egypt. After the heavy defeat of Italian troops, Germany deployed the newly formed German Afrika Korps (DAK) in "Operation Sunflower" to push back the Allied forces. The first expeditionary WAC troops arrived in Libya in February-March 1941 and were quickly recruited and mobilized by the legendary General Erwin Rommel. By mid-April he had successfully managed to oust the British from Libya, except for the besieged area of Tobruk. In 1941, Rommel's initial offensive continued to push Allied troops back to the Egyptian border. Dragon's newest 1/35 scale figure set features four WAC soldiers from this early period of the Desert War.This set is divided into two groups – one pair of figures represents the panzer crew, while the other pair are part of the artillery crew. Modelers will immediately understand the usefulness of this collection. Summer-suited tankers can be paired with any DAK tank in Dragon's range (e.g. Panzer III Ausf.H), while artillery crews will be a perfect match with Dragon's 15cm s.FH.18 howitzer. Four 1/35 scale German military figures are sharply molded and their uniforms and personal equipment are accurately depicted. In particular, the gunners were warmly dressed in thick coats for the cold Libyan nights. As part of a desert diorama or miniature, these versatile DAK figures from Dragon are the ideal accessory.
