About
The German Neubaufahrzeug series tank prototypes were the first attempt to create a heavy tank for Wehrmacht after Adolf Hitler came to power. They were not considered multi -tower, heavy and slow, successful, which caused only five to be produced. They were mainly used for propaganda, but three of them participated in the Norway War in 1940.
During the 1920s and 1930s, many countries have experienced very large, multi -towers tanks. In 1926, the British built a single example of Vickers A1E1 Independent. This inspired the Soviet T-35, which was built in a limited number of 1933.
This propaganda role, Panzer Abteilung Z.B.V. To support Norway's occupation, 40 (Zur Besonderen Verwendung - "Special Purpose") were founded and three Neubaufahrzeuge were appointed to this unit. A vehicle was allocated to Kampfgruppe Fischer, who moved to the north via the Øterdalen Valley, and the other two to the Gudbrand Valley, Kampfgrouppe Pellengahr. Kampfgrouppe Fischer was appointed to Lillehammer on his way to motor problems, while Kampfgrouppe Pellengahr'a appointed two of the two of the two was faced with mechanical problems just north of Lillehammer. Only one tank actually brought this to the fore; He immediately took action with the progress of the German power in the Gudbrand Valley with the other elements of Panzer Abteilung Z.B.V. 40.
After the Norway campaign, it is not clear what happened to the tanks, but none of them survived the war. The survivor was ordered to scrape the vehicles in 1941, and this took place in 1942 according to the British documents in 1945. The dates of the vehicles are uncertain, but it is thought to be at the beginning of Sturer's construction. Emil prototypes belong to the same time.
The latest known Neubaufahrzeug was used as a target to train Volkssturm by a Lehr training unit in late 1944 in the use of Panksserschreck 43 and other tank weapons.
The only thing that survived these tanks is a small number of toothed parts protected in the Kvam in Norway, in Gudbrandsdal Krigsminnesamling (Gudbrand Valley War Monument Collection).
