About
Second Kharkov Battle or Fredericus Operation, II. During World War II was a counter-attack around Kharkov (current Kharkiv) against the Red Army Izium Köprübaşı attack on 12-28 May 1942 during World War II.
The aim was to eliminate the Izium bridge head or the Soviet attack on the Seversky Donets "Barvenkovo bloating" (Russian: барвенковский выступ).
After a winter attack that took German troops away from Moscow but consumed the Red Army's reserves, the Kharkov attack was a new Soviet attempt to expand its strategic initiatives, even though it could not provide an important surprise element.
The war was an overwhelming German victory for the Germans and their allies, with 280,000 Soviet casualties compared to only 20,000.
The German Army Southern Group besieged the Soviet 28th army in the Wilhelm Operation on June 13, and on June 22, the 38th and 9th armies in the Fridericus II operation back to Case Blue, which was initiated on June 28th.
The most important importance is the main German attack on the eastern front in 1942.
