About
2 cm victory 38 AUF PANZER 1, known as Flakpanzer 1, is a motorized weapon converted from Panzer 1, which was used by Nazi Germany during World War II.
Flacpanzer 1 was developed during the French War when Panzer1 armor was insufficient. The German Heereswaffenamt decided to mount light aircraft cannons on tank chassis. Panzer 1's chassis was used for these transformations because it was too much. Transformations were made by Stoewer.
During the conversion, the components of the superstructure and the complete coating of the engine compartment were removed to win a more flat space. To obtain a better center of gravity, the front armor of the superstructure was shifted by about 18 mm. The wings on the side were made of simple metal plates and did not provide real protection. The radio was dismantled to gain more space; Communication was done with hand movements. Vehicles were armed with vial 38; In addition, the crew was equipped with weapons such as 98k. The main weapon center was slightly mounted to the right to facilitate the driver to enter the vehicle. The ammunition was hiding under the driver's seat and behind the loader.
Only one union is equipped with a motorized vial battalion 614, Flacpanzer 1. The unit was collected in 1941 and was deployed in Romania the same year. From there they moved to the southern part of the eastern façade. While the service was in the service, vehicles offered a limited defense against aircraft, usually used against ground targets. There were high losses due to insufficient protection of the crew. Although the whole battalion was abandoned or destroyed, the whole battalion dispersed in 1943 in Stalingrad.
