The ball was fully automatic and effective against flying aircraft at heights up to 4,200 meters.  The ball was both pulled and produced in self -driven versions. The Germans with a flexible doctrine also used anti -aircraft pieces in ground support roles; 37 mm caliber balls were not an exception. With the defeat of Germany, production stopped and a total of 37 mm -caliber anti -aircraft balls, Bocfirs 40 mm ball and then 35 mm aircraft produced in Switzerland was used gradually.
