The first paramilitary unit with SS (German: Schutz Staffel) abbreviation was Leibstandarde Adolf Hitler, the personal protection of the third Reich dictator, officially founded in 1933. Since 1934, SS was an independent formation headed by Heinrich Himmler. Over time, more SS units, including SS-Totenkopfverbände and SS-Verfügunggstruppe, were established. It is worth adding that the latter is trained in a similar way to normal Wehrmacht infantry units. The SS units were used in 1939 in the clashes in Poland and the French operations in 1940. The first units, which have been intended to fight on the front since the beginning, were founded in the mid -1940s that gave them the name Waffen SS. Initially, they were hired on a voluntary basis among non -German people, but over time compulsory procurement began to be applied. In Waffen-SS, many divisions with different battle values ​​have been created. However, a few of them (eg 1. SS Lah Panzer Division, 2nd SS DAS Reich Panzer Division or 12th SS Hitlerjugugend Panzer Division) can be considered as elite units with very high battle values ​​and are usually equipped with the best equipment available. They showed their important advantages not only on the Eastern Front (1941-1945), but also in the battles near Harkov in 1943, but also in the battles in France in 1944. Another issue is that the quality of the command staff of these troops is controversial in many cases and many Waffen-SS soldiers II. It is the commitment of war crimes during World War II.

The Panzer Division (initially motorized) SS Wiking (Alm. 5. SS-Panzerdivision "Wiking") is the name of a German tactical unit, which has been part of Waffen SS since World War II. In 1943, he successfully fought in Harkov and joined the Battle of Kursk, and then repulsed the Soviet counter -attack. In 1944, he engaged in anti -Partisan activities in Poland and fought against the Red Army in the Warsaw region. At the beginning of 1945, the division fought in Hungary and ended the war route in Austria by surrendering to the Allied forces. The troops of the division committed numerous war crimes during the war on the Eastern Front and participated in the genocide crime against the Jewish population.
