In late 1942, Russia launched a large-scale offensive maneuver at Stalingrad. A month later, Stalingrad fell into Russian hands again. Meanwhile, the Russians also crossed the Don River to capture Kharkov, a communications and transportation hub in central Russia. By then the front line had protruded. But the line was miraculously kept stable by the famous German Marshal Manstein. He then launched a counteroffensive against Kharkov, a major operation involving a number of German divisions. The 1st SS Panzer Division took the lion's share of the opposing forces. After house-to-house fighting and huge losses in the city, the city was eventually retaken. Inspired by the success of retaking Kharkov, the German Army planned and launched another major offensive operation, known worldwide as the "Battle of Kursk".

Model Specifications
This set depicts four new SS commanders dressed in different uniforms during a meeting in Kharkov. The figures are modeled as Max Hansen (Commander of the 2nd Battalion, 1st SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment) in a winter parka, Fritz Witt (Commander of the 1st SS Panzer Grenadier Regiment) in a sheepskin coat, Kurt Meyer (Commander of the 1st SS Reconnaissance Troop, LAH Division) in an armored personnel coverall, and Bernhard Krause (Commander of the 1st SS Anti-Aircraft Battalion) in a ruffled anorak. They carry personal equipment such as binoculars, map bags and guns.
