The first paramilitary unit with SS (German: Schutz Staffel) abbreviation was Leibstandarde Adolf Hitler, the personal protection of the third Reich dictator, officially founded in 1933. Since 1934, SS was an independent formation headed by Heinrich Himmler. Over time, more SS units, including SS-Totenkopfverbände and SS-Verfügunggstruppe, were established. It is worth adding that the latter is trained in a similar way to normal Wehrmacht infantry units. The SS units were used in 1939 in the clashes in Poland and the French operations in 1940. The first units, which have been intended to fight on the front since the beginning, were founded in the mid -1940s that gave them the name Waffen SS. Initially, they were hired on a voluntary basis among non -German people, but over time compulsory procurement began to be applied. In Waffen-SS, many divisions with different battle values ​​have been created. However, a few of them (eg 1. SS Lah Panzer Division, 2nd SS DAS Reich Panzer Division or 12th SS Hitlerjugugend Panzer Division) can be considered as elite units with very high battle values ​​and are usually equipped with the best equipment available. They showed their important advantages not only on the Eastern Front (1941-1945), but also in the battles near Harkov in 1943, but also in the battles in France in 1944. Another issue is that the quality of the command staff of these troops is controversial in many cases and many Waffen-SS soldiers II. It is the commitment of war crimes during World War II.

The Third SS Panzer Division (since 1942 was nicknamed "Totenkopf") was founded shortly after the September 1939 operation and was his first commander Theodore Eicke. At that time he was a motorized division. When the Union was established, it is worth mentioning that most of its members had previously worked in German concentration camps. In 1940, when he fought from May 16, the Union spent his baptization during the clashes in France. The Union also participated in the conflicts on the Eastern Front since June 1941 and participated in very intense conflicts in the boiler near Demiańskie (February-April 1942). After these conflicts, he was transferred to France, where his name was changed to the SS Panzer Grenadier Division to "Totenkopf" and in 1943, the 3rd SS Panzer Division "Totenkopf". In 1943, he joined the battles near Kharkiv, Kursk and Belgorod. In 1944, he fought with Soviet troops in Ukraine and then in the Białystok region. In the last year of the war, the Union fought in Hungary, and then withdrew to Austria, where he surrendered. II. During World War II, he committed numerous war crimes, including killing soldiers, civilians and prisoners of the "Totenkopf" division.
