About
Gran Sasso Raid, II. It was the rescue of the Italian dictator Benito Mussolini by the German Fallschirmjäger, led by Major Harald Mors and Waffen-SS commandos (especially Otto Skorzeny) during World War II.
The operation was ordered by Adolf Hitler himself, planned and executed by Mors and was approved by General Kurt Student.
On September 12, 1943, Skorzeny and 16 SS soldiers joined Fallschirmjäger to save Mussolini as a high -risk glider.
The operations started with the DFS-30 glider group of 10 vehicles.
The leader of the operation Paraşütçü-Oberleutnant Georg Freiherr von Berlepsch entered the first glide, while the Skorzeny and SS soldiers sat on the fourth and fifth glider.
Mussolini was protected by a 200 -person union.
In a good operation by Berlepsch and Skorzeny, he was rescued without damaging the hair of Mussolin's hair and was taken to Hitler's headquarters in Rastenburg.
