8. SS Cavalry Division "Florian Geyer" (German: 8th SS-Kavalsie-Division „Florian Geyer"), one of the 38 Divisions of Waffen SS was established on June 1942 under the name of SS Cavalry Tumen of SS Cavali Brigade. Approximately 40 %of the division was Siebenburgen and Volksdeutsche, who lived in Banat. The name of the division came from Florian Geyer who fought next to the peasants by commanding Schwarzer Haufen during the German peasant war. In 1942, it was sent to Rjev in November 1942 after it was used in Partisan Cleaning Operations in Mogilev and Demidov regions.
