Dragon 3588 1/35 Scale, M727 Tracked Guided Missile Carrier and MIM-23 HAWK M192 Anti-Aircraft Missile Launcher Combination Set, Plastic M
The M727 is an American prototype mobile anti-aircraft system developed during the Cold War. The length of the vehicle is 5.97 meters and its width is 2.56 meters. Propulsion was provided by a single 6-cylinder General Motors engine capable of delivering up to 212 horsepower. The vehicle's highway range was 480 kilometers. The M727 was equipped with triple MIM-23 Hawk missile launchers. The M727 was developed as a mobile medium-range anti-aircraft system for the needs of the US Army. Organizations that are part of the BAE Systems defense company were responsible for its development and production. To shorten the research and development work as much as possible, the M548 tracked vehicle was used as the chassis and platform; this vehicle was also based on many components of the M113 armored personnel carrier. MIM-23 Hawk missiles were used as the main weapon. However, the system did not enter mass production and work on it was stopped in 1971.The MIM-23 Hawk is a Cold War-era US medium-range surface-to-air missile system. The first prototypes of the MIM-23 Hawk missile appeared in the late 1950s and entered the inventory of the US armed forces in 1959; He served in the Marine Corps units until 2002! Probably around 40,000 of this type were produced worldwide. The MIM-23 Hawk system is designed to replace the Nike Hercules MIM-14 missiles. Compared to its predecessor, the new missile had a better range, a much higher probability of destroying the target with the first shot, and smaller size and weight. Targeting and communications systems (especially targeting radars) had also been significantly improved, and the MIM-23 missile itself was equipped with semi-active radar homing. In 1971, the system underwent a comprehensive modernization focused on improving electronics and radar, further increasing its combat capability. The system modernized in this way was called Improved Hawk. In 1995, the MIM-23 Hawk system became capable of combating short-range ballistic missiles of the surface-to-surface class. By 1994, this type of missiles had been replaced by the MIM-104 Patriot system in US Army units, but they continued to be used in Marine Corps units until 2002. MIM-23 missiles were licensed in many countries, such as Japan or Iran, and the MIM-23 Hawk system was used by many users, including Saudi Arabia, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, France, Israel and Germany. They were used in combat during the Yom Kippur War in 1973 and the Iran-Iraq War of 1980-1988.
