Hobbytime Model Information

The M48 Patton is an American-built 1st generation main battle tank (MBT), part of the M46-M60 family of vehicles that were the main tanks of the US Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. In 1951, the M-47 tanks were replaced by a more modern design, but numerous technical problems prevented the rapid implementation of the project. Finally, in 1953 the first version of the new M-48 entered service, replacing the reliable but obsolete M-47. Serial production was carried out between 1952 and 1959, during which time more than 12,000 tanks of this type were produced. One of the most widely produced versions during this period was the gasoline-powered M48A2C. After 1959 it was replaced by the diesel-powered M48A3. The M-48A and its later versions were exported to approximately two dozen customers, and many countries still use the M-48 as a base tank. Israel is an example here; These tanks serve alongside the Merkava after many modifications. Many of them are expected to begin implementing M-48 modernization programs, as is the case in South Korea. Improvements in the Korean version include strengthening the side armor or adding a night fire targeting system. It is also distinguished by a wind sensor mounted on the rear of the turret. The M-48 saw service in the Vietnam War, the 1965 Pakistan-India War, and the Six-Day War. It was inadequate against Egypt's T-34 and T-54 tanks in the battles in the Sinai Peninsula. Technical data: length: 9.3 m, width: 3.65 m, height: 3.1 m, weight: 45 t, engine power (diesel engine): 750 HP, speed: 48 km/h, armament (M48A3 version): M41 caliber gun. 90 mm, 1 M2 Browning machine gun (12.7 mm caliber) and 1 M73 machine gun (7.62 mm caliber).
