About

Seventh Acotim Turkish Stars are born in Turkish Air Force

From 1972 to 1992, there was no acrrrotim to operate continuously at the Air Force Command. Acrobatic movements were carried out in training flights. From 1972 to 1992, there were not only acrotims air demonstrations during the last twenty years, but instead of various ceremonies, air demonstrations containing limited number of acrobatics movements were organized.

After a 20 -year hiatus, the Turkish Air Force, which decided to establish an acrotim team again, started to establish an acrotim in line with the directives of the 20th Air Force Commander Gen. Halis Burhan. The 3rd Main Jet Base was approved on 11 September 1992 for the establishment of an acrotim within the 132nd weapon tactics and Standardized Fleet Command.

The acrotim, called the ’Turkish Stars’, performed its first show in Akıncı/Ankara on 18 June 1993 with the Four NF-5A/B Freedom Fighter aircraft. Following this show, the Turkish Stars, which won the status of ‘fleet’, managed to make a name for itself as the ‘youngest supersonic acrotimi in the world. In August 1993, renovation and painting activities were initiated on NF-5A/B aircraft at the 1st Air Supply Maintenance Center Command. Again in this process, five and six arm flying trainings were started. The renovations and changes on the 9 NF-5A and 1 NF-5B aircraft allocated to Turkish Stars were completed in July 1994.

The introduction of the Turkish Stars to the Turkish people was held on 5 October 1994, when the first 6th show was held, the 8th Main Jet Base Command/Diyarbakır and 29 October 1994 Republic Day ceremonies. The first 7th [seven-aircraft] show of the Turkish Stars Acotimi was held on 20 April 1995 with the participation of domestic and foreign guests on the Seçkin Observatory Day on the 1st Main Jet Base Command/Eskişehir. The 100th demonstration of the Turkish Stars was exhibited at Atatürk Cultural Center [AKM, Ankara] within the scope of the Republic Day celebrations on 29 October 2000. The first show with the eight plane, which was initiated in 2003 to increase the demonstration event, was held on 30 March 2004 in the 3rd Main Jet Base Command/Konya.

The 134th Acotim Fleet Command, which is currently in its inventory, has 10 NF-5A 2000 and 6 NF-5 2000 Freedom Fighter aircraft and call name ‘Turkish Stars’ as of 2018; A total of 513 demonstrations, 370 in 96 different provinces and districts in Turkey and 143 in 24 different countries abroad. The Turkish Stars were held in Rize on 3 July 2004, 300th show in Florennes/Belgium international air demonstrations on 5 August 2008, and the 400th demonstration on 15 November 2012 in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus [TRNC]. He still continues his demonstrations by 6/8 aircraft with the duties of the Turkish Nation's Brave Wings ıyla with 7 pilots, 6 fleet ground teams and 38 maintenance personnel.

The Turkish Stars have three different show packages, currently high, low and Flat. High demonstration package; The ground level of the cloud sub -ceiling is +9.000 feet [3,000m], the low show package is +4,000 feet [1,300m], and the Flat show package is +1,000 feet [300m]. In high and low demonstration packages, movements consisting of the performances of the main arms and solos are displayed, while the Flat show package is flying in the form of passage transitions consisting of different arm layouts. During the air demonstrations where the distance between the two aircraft landed up to 3 feet [1m], the pilots are exposed to around 5.5-6g in collective movements and in solo movements, the limit of the aircraft -3/+7.33g. In the air shows performed in speeds between 200 knots and 520 knots [370km/s and 960km/s], movements are completely manually by hand, foot coordination, eye control and reasoning called the pilots' psychomotor abilities.
