M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle (Cev) is a full -tracked tool used to open the breach, to remove obstacles and to lead operations. Production began in 1965 and ended in 1987. A total of 312 units of all variants of these armored engineering vehicles were produced.

The first production of M728 was from 1965 to 1972. Most of the M782A1s were former M60A2 Patton tanks converted from 1982 to 1987 to M728a1s. All M728A1s were transformed and merged with General Dynamics Land Systems in the Anniston Army warehouse within the scope of the contract
